Mikhail Ignatiev blasted onto the road racing scene this year with a stage win in Tour Méditerranéen and victory in the prestigious Trofeo Laigueglia, but the 21 year-old Russian was already marked for greatness when he scored a gold medal on the track in the 2004 Olympic points race.

Olympic champion Mikhail Ignatiev gained another solo victory in the Trofeo Laigueglia, just five days after wining stage 3 of the Tour Méditerranéen. He is the first Russian to add his names to the race's palmarès, and, like Lance Armstrong in 1993, he took victory at a young age, 21.

Pluricampione del mondo in varie specialità da juniores; poi campione Olimpico nella corsa a punti su pista e campione del mondo cronometro su strada. Quest'anno, vincitore di una tappa al Mediterraneo e, oggi, del Trofeo Laigueglia.
