A Conversation with GreenEDGE’s Fumiyuki Beppu
podiuminsight, Stephanie, 13 Januari 2012
I first met Fumiyuki (Fumy) Beppu in 2005. He was freshly signed by Discovery Channel from the high-powered French team VC La Pomme. Johan Brunyeel wanted a Japanese rider and Beppu was the best Japanese rider. I was asked by the team’s online writer, Cathy Mehl, to help translate an interview for their team site. I found Beppu absolutely charming. He was quite excited about riding with a professional team and very determined to be the best. In all the years since that first conversation, there has been little change. He remains one of the nicest riders in the professional peloton and he is still determined to be the best.

Japan’s rising son
Cyclesportmag, Edward Pickering, 20 Juni 2011
Japan is full of bicycles and kerin racing is huge, but Fumiyuki Beppu is one of only four Japanese road riders competing at the top level. Chigaseki is a seaside town located on a broad sweep of sandy beaches about 50 kilometres down Japan’s east coast from Tokyo. The Tokaido Main Line, one of the busiest railways in the world, which connects Tokyo to Kobe, runs through the town. The train journey from the capital runs through endless, contiguous metropolis – Tokyo, Yokohama, and then across to the coast at Chigaseki.

"I’m a professional cyclist; I’m here to do my job"
cyclingtime.com, Jean-François Quénet, 23 Mei 2011
The only Japanese taking part in this year’s Giro d’Italia, one year after Yukiya Arashiro, is Fumiyuki Beppu with RadioShack. It means he won’t ride the Tour de France again but this could well be his first year doing two Grand Tours with the Vuelta a España being a possibility in August.
